Riptide Bfd - Profile of a stallion
Rippy, as he is affectionately known, is our current stallion. He is sired by Rembrandt out of Flashback Bfd, a Mountbatten daughter. Now light grey and going white, he stands a regal 17 hands ½ inch high.
The Bloodlines: Riptide Bfd carries Holsteiner lines from Ramzes via Romedio (imp) and Fanal via Fax I. Romedio was one of the few grandsons of Ramzes to leave Europe and there are very few lines that carry Ramzes up as close as Romedio's line. The most famous of these lines is Ramiro. There is a huge amount of information available on Ramzes as he is one of the most influential stallions in the modern sport horse industry. A compilation of this information can be found here...
Riptide's sire line:
His dam line:
Flashback's dam is Desdemona Bfd, one of our foundation mares by our Flaneur stallion Siegfried. This line also produced the mare BP Heritage and from her comes the Grand Prix showjumper Caltango and the stallion Snowy River Holey Plains. Desdemona has her own page here. Riptide Bfd was bred and selected to be our replacement stallion but sadly didn’t get to prove his great performance potential. When he was a 5 yr old and being trained for dressage he got his hoof caught in a “hang up” metal feed bin and it tore off the side of his hoof. He has returned to full movement but not to training soundness. It took nearly two years for the wall to regrow so we decided to use him as our breeding stallion, rather than start his training anew.
The reason he has remained our breeding stallion is as follows: |
